In addition to treating drug and alcohol addiction we treat many other forms of addiction and compulsive behaviors. As we are psychologists, licensed professional counselors and licensed marital and family therapists we enjoy working with clients who present with a wide array of concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems etc. We also treat more behavioral or “process” addictions like gambling and eating disorders including binge eating disorder, anorexia and bulimia.

Many of the the folks we see come for sex, love or shopping addiction as well. While some professionals do nto consider these illneses addictions most clinicians refer to these behaviors as “process addictions” because there are particular patterns or processes to  such behaviors which can be identified, challenged supported and replaced. These behavioral addictions or process addictions have much in common with drug and alcohol addiction in that they affect the individual, their friends partnerships and family.  They can be fueled by other mental health problems and they can cause other mental health problems and they can be very hard to change.

The treatment and recovery approaches for process addictions are very similar to treatment and recovery options for drug and alcohol addiction. People tend to benefit at first from individual therapy but then often benefit from group therapy, medication, social support, structure and help to find meaning and purpose in their lives.

We enjoy working with other addictions and believe individual therapy is the cornerstone to this work. Whether you are sure or not that what you are struggling with is an addiction, therapy can help you stop or cut back your use of these behaviors. Don’t hesitate to call us to discuss whether we might be able to help.
