About Me
I am a psychoanalytic social worker licensed in the state of Pennsylvania (LSW). I have a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW) from Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research.
I’ve worked in the field of addiction and mental health since 2022. My experience has included a variety of settings: inpatient medically supervised detox, rehab level of care, and private practice with individuals, families, and couples.
I have also worked as a filmmaker and educator. I produced narrative, documentary and experimental films exploring human relations and personal histories. I received a Master’s in Fine Art (MFA) in film and electronic media from Bard College. I enjoy using this experience to facilitate my clients’ creative resolutions of their life challenges.
With my wife, the author Alexandra Auder, I founded yoga schools in New York and Philadelphia. Together, we have led yoga, writing and creative retreats around the world for over twenty years. I continue to use this experience with mindfulness training to aid my clients.
My Approach to Therapy
My practice is rooted in psychoanalytic, relational, and psychodynamic principles. I deeply consider the impact of family and social environments on an individual’s mental health and well-being. I strive to create a compassionate and empathetic space where clients feel understood and free from judgment, particularly when addressing complex issues like addiction, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties.
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process, where we work together to explore the underlying causes of distress and develop creative and meaningful strategies for change. My background as a filmmaker and educator allows me to bring a creative lens to therapy, helping clients uncover new perspectives on their challenges and explore innovative solutions. I often integrate creative techniques and mindfulness practices into our sessions, encouraging clients to tap into their inner resources and strengths.
An understanding of race-based trauma, gender discrimination, and LGBTQIA+ issues should underlie any socially sensitive therapeutic practice, and I believe such an approach benefits all of my clients, their families and our community. The developmental struggle of early adulthood is also a concentration of my practice. Overall, my intention is to provide a tailored approach that meets the specific needs of each client. Whether working with individuals, families, or couples, my goal is to foster growth, healing, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.
