Evidence Based, Empirical & Best Practices Models
Effective treatment is treatment approach that addresses individuals’ drug abuse, psychological, medical, social, vocational, and legal problems – as described by The National Institute of Drug Abuse in a publication called Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment.
We are cognizant of these complex issues and seek to help clients in addressing each of these areas through individual psychotherapy and other approaches as necessary.
Group therapy can supplement these areas although it is important to keep in mind that “one-size-fits-all” or canned Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) which focus mostly on lectures, psycho-education, or 12-step education do not adequately address these critical obstacles in recovery.
Cognitive behavior therapy, or CBT, offers research validated techniques which have shown to be effective in relapse prevention.
The primary evidenced-based strategies we use include:
- CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
- Relapse Prevention,
- Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Interviewing,
- Twelve-Step Facilitation Therapy,
- Mindfulness-based relapse prevention stress reduction and cognitive therapy,
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT),
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and a variety of behavioral psychology approaches such as functional analysis,
- Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) and
- Systematic Desensitization and Exposure approaches
